"Assume Too Soon" (Official Music Video)

Imerald Brown Bio from her website

Born to Linda Nevels and Jerrold Brown, creativity was embedded in her genome. Imerald Brown’s parents were both creative. “I remember my mother had a way of writing words, and my father coming up with his very own sayings and songs." It was her older brother who influenced her interest in Hip-Hop, while her older cousin wrote her first rap when she was a pre-teen. Growing up, she was influenced by her older brother Deshajn and cousin Jay. “They were into music and I looked up to that. I'd always wanted to get into the industry, but I didn't know how to go about doing it. There was just something about my family that drove me into it.”
In middle school, she would freestyle with friends at lunchtime, while someone made the beat on a locker. When she started attending Berkeley High School, that’s when she got involved with YMR (Youth Movement Records). They had an after-school music program where they taught production skills, artist development skills, and performance skills.
Imerald Brown is a realistic lyricist and artist. She started off writing poetry, then melodic songs. Eventually, she created raps. She is overall a talented individual who dabbles in all that is creative. Even writing a book, skits, and monologues. She has been through the storms and is still climbing up high mountains. She won the war with a visionless manager and has found her genuine music. She was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, and Yuma, Arizona. She has traveled to follow her dreams and she is restless with a focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
Imerald Brown has performed at various venues throughout the Bay Area like San Francisco's historic The Fillmore, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, Sweet's Ballroom, La Pena Cultural Center, New Parkway Theater, Starline Social Club, Qulture Collective, Eastside Arts Alliance, Red Victorian, among other venues. She has performed alongside Bay Area artists like Zion I, The Team (Clyde Carson, Mayne Mannish, Kaz Kyzah), Crown City Rockers, etc. She got her first taste of stardom when she performed at her elementary school's assembly – she was 9 at the time.

Imerald Brown was influenced by artists such as Queen Latifah, TLC, M.I.A, Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Biggie, Nas,  Hieroglyphics, E-40, Da Brat, MC Lyte, and Foxy Brown.

Imerald Brown's previous work includes compilations such as "Change The Nation", "Taste Test", "The Movement Continues", and "True 2 Life Mixtape Vol 1". She also released more mixtapes digitally over time.
Imerald Brown met her first manager, Napoleon Williams at the then well-known venue 2232, which was later renamed Starline Social Club. Napolean was astonished after hearing Imerald's thought provoking lyricism. While signed under Napo Entertainment, Imerald released her first studio album “Sweet and Sour. Under harsh circumstances dealing with her management, Imerald states "I wasn't doing what I really wanted to do. My full potential wasn't recognized. I was on a different level than my management team, but I wouldn't change my experience. It was fun and I learned a lot.”

Imerald Brown is currently in the studio writing, producing, and recording. The future looks gleamingly bright for Imerald as she continues to embark on her journey. She has a vision like no other. When everyone is taking a break, she is up and taking action! There is a determination held by Imerald Brown that just can’t be broken or torn. She is an example of what hard work and dedication looks like.
