Q.1) How old are you & where are you from?
Zilla Cartel: I'm 34 and I'm from New York City's East side of Harlem
Hades730: I'm 27.. ok I'm 34 but I look 27.. and my humor is 15.. I'm from the Bronx..
Q.2) How long have you been on the scene of hip-hop?
Zilla Cartel: I've been rapping and doing music since a kid like 10 i would say. But my lifestyle was a lil' adventurous, I was doing music for love at the time. I released a few songs here and there. My first project was called "Nice To Meet You" that was like 2012. I consider myself being on the scene 5 years. But I've been making music forever.
Hades730: I've been an avid listener my whole life but didn't partake until high school..
Q.3) Which hip hop artists did you idolize when you were growing up?
Zilla Cartel: Man I idolized the greats, the legends, or at least the pillars in Hip-hop in my opinion. You know Wutang, BIG, Jay-Z, Nas, The Lox, 2Pac for sure, Scarface, Herb Mcgruff, Big L, AZ, Raekwon, Ghostface, DMX, MobbDeep, Cam'ron, Big Pun, Eminem, Outcast.... I could go on... I listened to a lot of dope shit as a kid. Mase was real big in Harlem when I was a kid too.
Hades730: Man way too many to list.. loved Wutang, Pac, Big, Nas, Jay, Bone, Eminem, ChinoXL...Oh yeah Canibus was dope too. Can't forget the dog DMX.
Q.4) When did you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Zilla Cartel: I always wanted a career in music, I think I probably was like 17 or something when I knew I had enough talent to pursue it as an actual career. People always told me I had a very distinct sound. But I was into things that kind of strayed me from it at times.
Hades730: After writing lessons from Zilla Cartel and proving to myself what I'm capable of...I bit a lot of MC's heads off too along the way of proving that to myself lol.
Q.5) What keeps you motivated to continue creating hip hop music?
Zilla Cartel: I still love it. I loved it ever since I first heard it. I not only rap I produce as well, so even if I'm not writing I'm still creating.... I'm always going to love it. It also extremely motivates me when people say we can't do it or we're too old and shit. Like nigga rockstars are in they 50s, 60s & 70s I think even some in they 80s lol. You get what I'm saying but we like 34 Imma be doing this shit till I'm ready to stop. Even if I'm not rapping per say I will always play some role in Hip-hop.
Hades730: My family is my battery pack.. plus I adore this art and would love to be considered a part of it.. and last thing is I'm a rockstar, an I'm broke.
Q.6) Who has been the most detrimental to the scene of hip hop in your opinion?/Why do people say real hip hop is dead?
Zilla Cartel: Sheeeesh your really bringing the heat. You want me to single handedly point out the murderer of Hip-hop. Lol I personally think it was a group of individuals that led to the digression in creation and influence in Hip-hop music. But I cant say its bad either I mean change is evident in everything. Maybe niggaz just need to keep Mumble Rap in like its own genre, so niggaz could stop tryna compare Jay-Z and Lil Yachty. Because there is none.
Hades730: I can't narrow it to a person when so many contributed in different factions.. Wu Tang taught knowledge and brotherhood.. Pac taught rebellion for what you believe in.. Jay taught us to be wise businessmen.. Eminem taught us don't bite your tongue and push your pen it's farthest.. and the list goes on.. as far as right now.. I'm a Kendrick fan. People say hip hop is dead mainly because all the elements I just described are slowly fading.. the culture is being turned into something it wasn't and something of less worth and value.. age of ADHD.. lol.
Q.7) Why do you choose to stay independent rather than signing to a label?
Zilla Cartel: Definitely staying independent. I think the way music is distributed through these multiple platforms makes it highly profitable to be an independent entity. But I wouldn't rule out the idea either if the number makes sense. I feel that us starting out with own label right now that its important for us to create a strong music presence on our own before we walk through that door.
Hades730: Control over artistic creativity and financial decisions.. better percentages.. there's a few reasons.. however we would sign to a worthy label if the contract was right.. maybe a Roc Nation or Aftermath.. hint hint wink wink plug plug..
Q.8) If you could compare yourself to any other artist who would it be?
Zilla Cartel: I dont compare myself to no one, but I think I've had a few influences....Hades compares me to Rakim and BIG.
Hades730: I have gotten Jay-Z and Eminem comparisons.. which is a ridiculous compliment because I feel they are legendary.. but me myself I'd say nobody.. I share a lot of similarities because I learn styles like a martial artist.. but add my own touch of psycho retarded motivation ..
Q.9) Do you have any projects in the near future you can tell us about?
Zilla Cartel: Yup, we half way through with the album not sure when we will release it maybe over the summer. Also we got a few singles to release that will be totally new. Some real dope shit with more production from me. I only produced one on Vega and Winnfield. We're gonna do solo joints next year.
Hades730: There is another Awxl project being worked on as we speak.. plus videos, merch, and solo albums we will be releasing.. we also would like to touch on other business endeavors as well.. may it be acting, vlog, modeling etc.. maybe porn.. jk.. my hopping on hips script will never be released.. sorry.
Q.10) If you could send all your fans an inspiring & motivational message that wasn't in the form of a song like most I've heard what would it be?
Zilla Cartel: Aim for the sky..... and when you reach that shoot for the moon .....after that go for the stars never stop there's galaxies out there, the possibilities are endless... Stay blessed AWXL.
Hades730: I'd say reach for the stars so if you fall you land on the clouds.. no wait that was Kanye.. ok I got it.. Awxl stands for not fighting the war they tell you to.. but to fight in the one you believe in.. so whatever you feel your purpose is on this planet.. be it a positive one.. reach for it and believe you will obtain it.. manifest it into your reality how only you can..love yourself.. only by loving yourself you avoid your worst enemy.. which is yourself.. and last but not least thank you from the depths of our hearts for supporting and listening and dropping comments, good or bad.. bless you all gn.
