Who is Terror MC, and Why Is Cape Town, South Africa Rushing to Buy His Music?
Terror MC is perhaps the last person that friends and family would have expected to see rising to the level of fame that he has just run up on, because Terror was trouble maker growing up South Africa. He was always in the middle of something that he shouldn’t have been, testing peoples limits, pushing everyone’s buttons. To see him doing as well as he is now in his rapping career instead of locked in a jail cell is incredible to them.
Q.1) How old are you & where are you from?
I am turning 33 this Year. Believe that? I'm from a place called Ogden. Its in Utah. Geographically located outside of Salt Lake City.
Q.2) How long have you been on the scene of hip-hop?
Nearly 16 years. Meaning on the scene. Other than that I was doing shows when I was like 11.
Q.3)Which hip hop artists did you idolize when you were growing up?
Big Pun, Nas, DMX, M.O.P., Red & Method Man, Esham, ICP, Twiztid, King Quadiir, Trick Daddy, Latino Velevet, Dayton Family, SpeedKnot Mobstaz & a whole fuck load more lol.
Q.4) When did you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
I've always taken music seriously. The entire reason I started was to try to make something of myself. A career in music or the entertainment industry was always my objective. Some people aren't so lucky, they never figure out what they want to do.
Q.5) What keeps you motivated to continue creating hip hop music?
Honestly I used to feel as if I was just too different. Or that the scene was changing too rapidly to grasp it. And now those are the things that motivate me the most. I receive no greater pleasure in life than finding new ways to exercise the growth of talent inside myself and those around me.
Q.6)Who has been the most detrimental to the scene of hip hop in your opinion? Why do people say real hip hop is dead?
I feel as if people were expecting hip hop and rap to stay in the streets and amongst the people. Once it was made a marketable tool to sell shit is when people who consider themselves real fans felt that it was selling out. You got Ice cube who in my opinion was a dope ass gangsta rapper, he kept it pretty raw and had flow. This dude now is the genuine key to urban family movies some of them Disney I believe. Me myself, I kind of feel that it isn't the game that changed or the flow. It's the market of the world around it. The way it was forced to be perceived .
Q.7) Why do you choose to stay an underground artist rather than selling out?
In the beginning there was a pride amongst artists who could maintain in the underground and stay afloat and it was all like "fuck selling out'' there was a choice. I ride that way. However. Times have changed. It's almost as if you have to remain underground to make anything of yourself or to have anyone take you seriously. This is a self made game. We all know whose on their knees and whose grinding.
Q.8) If you could compare yourself to any other artist who would it be?
I honestly don't really have an answer to that one...
Q.9) Do you have any projects in the near future you can tell us about?
So many things going on its insane!! My team ( #Black Shirt ) has started our own interview/talk show called blackshirt brutal broadcast. My partner 4Tre and I will be finally finishing a group album and revelling our group name. We have releases from everyone on the team anticipated in the first quarter of this year. We have so many charity drives coming up its crazy. Baby's on the way, marriages, We've got our own magazine starting the beginning of this year. Trying to break into radio and actual television next.
Q.10) If you could send all your fans an inspiring & motivational message that wasn't in the form of a song like most I've heard what would it be?
Live, experience, The good, bad, everything, question everything until it fits you. Do good works no matter what. Represent others before yourself. Motivate, Inspire, Create. Don't be a fuckbag. You've all saved my life literally. #LoveYallForReal.
